OpenAI has just announced the launch of its new API that will enable developers to integrate ChatGPT into their apps and products. With the API, developers will be granted access to advanced language and speech-to-text capabilities, in addition to providing cost savings of up to 90% compared to rates charged back in December 2022.
The new API comes with the open-source Whisper large-v2 model, which will provide faster and more cost-effective results. ChatGPT API users can expect continuous model improvements and the option to select dedicated capacity for more in-depth control over the models. OpenAI has also refined its API terms of service to better meet developers’ needs, based on their feedback.
Several developers have already started or are planning to launch ChatGPT integrations in their apps. For instance, Snapchat recently rolled out My AI, a new chatbot available to Snapchat+ subscribers that offers recommendations and can even write a haiku for friends in seconds. Additionally, Quizlet, a learning platform, is launching Q-Chat, a fully adaptive AI tutor that engages students with adaptive questions based on relevant study materials delivered through a fun chat experience.
Instacart is planning to use ChatGPT technology to provide users with food-related queries and inspirational shoppable answers, and Shopify is integrating the technology into Shop, its consumer app, to act as a virtual shopping assistant. Developers can sign up for access to the API from today, enabling them to take advantage of this cutting-edge technology.
